Day 2: Kigali City  – National Museum Butare – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Travel by road with your driver to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Butare for the fascinating canopy walk. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in Butare en-route to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Located in Southwestern Rwanda close to Rwanda’s border with Burundi, Nyungwe Foret National Park. The park is the largest protected mountain forest in Africa sitting on a total land area of over 1000 square kilometers. Nyungwe forest is also known to be one of the most preserved forests on the African continent which is very rich in biodiversity; mainly for its over 1000 different species of fauna and flora combined.

This Rwandan park is most popular for its canopy walk, a bridge suspended 60m above the forest floor permitting authoritative views over the forest covering. Day 3- Chimp Trekking Nyungwe Forest  – Transfer to Kibuye driving along Congo Nile Trail

Morning Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest. After a hearty early morning breakfast, we will transfer to the park for the Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking experience. Nyungwe Forest National Park is an ideal location for enjoying chimpanzee trekking close to the gorilla habitat in Volcanoes National Park. The trek to find the chimps in this forest starts in the morning and we advise our Bic Tours guests to pack well for the day including long trousers, long sleeved shirts, rain jackets (remember this is a rain forest), strong hiking boots, sun glasses and a hat. A maximum of 8 tourists can track the chimpanzees in a group and since they have been habituated (made accustomed to visitors) they are relatively friendly. It is a fascinating encounter on foot and a beautiful moment shared with man’s closest relative in the forest. In this same park you can also sight over 300 different bird species, orchids, many butterflies and about 75 species of mammals including 12 other primate species; these include the Ruwenzori colobus Monkeys, the grey cheeked Mangabeys; and the golden monkeys is reported to have been seen here as well.

We will return to the lodge for lunch and then transfer to Kibuye via Nyamasheke driving along the shores of Lake Kivu. Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Pitched right next to the gorgeous Lake Kivu, Moriah Hill Resort is a favorite for Bic Tours guests on Rwanda holidays. The hotel is set in a tranquil setting, far from the fast life of Kigali city. Comfort, security, luxury in chic bedrooms are only a few elements that make this resort a beloved location for our guests on safari in Rwanda.

Depending on how busy the day is, this boat cruise lasts an average of 2 hours.

We will continue towards Gisenyi town also located along the shores of Lake Kivu for lunch and relaxation around one of the African Great Lakes that is found in Rwanda which lies within the Albertine Rift Valley (the western arm of the Great Rift Valley). Day 6- Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Kinigi – Visit and enjoy Ibyiwachu Cultural Village

After breakfast, we will transfer by road to the Kinigi area for a visit to the Ibyiwachu Cultural Village.

You will transfer by road with our Bic Tours driver towards Kinigi Ruhengeri which is located very close to the Volcanoes National Park. Check-in at Gorilla View Lodge and enjoy lunch at the lodge.

In the afternoon we will head out for a visit in the Ibyiwachu Cultural Village to experience firsthand a taste of the fascinating Rwandan culture; the traditional lifestyles, activities, the famous dances and artefacts of the people of Rwanda. This will also be an opportunity to support the community as an incentive to encourage them to protect the mountain gorillas and their habitat. This is a project that has been developed by members of the community for the community. We will then return to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for dinner.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is located right at the edge of Volcanoes National Park and is only a 10 minutes’ drive from the entrance to the home of the mountain gorillas in Rwanda where Gorilla Safaris in Rwanda start. The lodge sits right at the foothills of one of the volcanoes that form the Virunga massif called Karisimbi. Day 7: Gorilla Trekking at Volcanoes National Park

Transfer to Volcanoes National Park for Rwanda gorilla trekking and golden monkey experience.

We will arise early for breakfast and thereafter transfer to the office of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) in Kinigi where the pre-trekking briefing on the different do’s and don’t’s for you’re a gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda take place for all tourists on Rwanda Gorilla Safaris. We will have made an advance Rwanda gorilla permit booking to guarantee that you can track the mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

Because it is unpredictable to know where the mountain gorillas will be on the day and therefore the hike may last for a while, we will ensure to leave with packed lunch from the lodge and enough water for the hike.

After the briefing you will be informed of the group which you will be tracking and also allocated tour guides to lead you through this out-of-the-world experience of coming face to face with the few remaining mountain gorilla individuals. The mountain gorillas are habituated and are used to daily visits by tourists. You can read more about gorilla tracking in Rwanda here.

After the gorilla trek, we will return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.
